Dr.(Mrs) Jayalekshmi is a Professor in the Department of Physics of the Cochin University of Science & Technology. Her research areas include, Polymer Light emitting Diodes (PLED), Rechargeable Lithium-Ion cells, Nonlinear Optics (NLO), Nanophotonics and Bio-nanophotonics. She has taken post doctoral research positions in National Research Council Canada, University of St.Andrews, Scotland and University of East Anglia England. She has research collaborations with many national Institutes in India including VSSC, Trivandrum, TIFR, Mumbai, Institute of Physics Bhuvaneswar ,Raman Research Institute, Banglore and IIT Kanpur . She has over sixty publications in reputed international journals . She is a member of professional organisations like SPIE, ECS and a life member of MRSI and APT. She is a reviewer for a number of reputed international journals. She has undertaken sponsored research projects from agencies like DST,UGC,KSCSTE,BRNS,DRDO,ISRO etc . She has guided 11 PhD students and 17 MPhil students to the successful completion of the requirements for the award of the degree and eight more students are currently working under her supervision for Ph.D.
